Fields

Apoptosis, programmed cell death
Keywords: apoptosis, Bcl-2 family, caspases, mitochondria, serine proteases
Description: We study the molecular mechanisms of programmed cell death (apoptosis), in particular how Bcl-2 proteins regulate mitochondrial membrane permeability and how other proteases (serine proteases) participate in cell death in addition to caspases.
RNA alphaviruses of the Semliki Forest virus (SFV) type
Keywords: SFV replication, recombinant viruses by replicon system, virus-induced apoptosis/necrosis.
Description: We study how the RNA alphaviruses Semliki-Forest-Virus and Sindbis Virus lead cells into apoptosis. We will learn about the viral components that induce cell death and study the cellular signalling pathways that the virus needs to complete cell death.
Systems biology of the liver
Keywords: apoptosis and survival of primary hepatocytes after addition of Fas/CD95 ligand. TNF, FasL, caspases, mitochondria.
Description: We would like to mathematically model the apoptotic and mitogenic signalling pathway of FasL in primary mouse hepatocytes.
